Clear expectations for families
Dakota Beta Terms
Effective July 10, 2026 · Canada private beta
These Terms govern the Canadian private beta of Dakota, a conversation-first, Montessori-aligned family learning service.
Who may create a Family
The purchasing Family Admin must be an adult who has reached the age of majority in their province or territory and is the parent or legal guardian of every participating child. By creating a Family, you confirm that authority and accept responsibility for the trusted adult caregivers you invite. Dakota is designed for adults; children do not create accounts or communicate with Dakota directly.
What Dakota provides
Dakota provides Montessori-aligned activity guidance through texts and requested calls, turns caregiver-confirmed updates into structured family learning records, and prepares a shared weekly report. Dakota is not a school, emergency service, medical or developmental service, diagnostic tool, or kindergarten assessment or certification. Adults remain responsible for deciding whether an activity is safe and suitable.
Family access and conversation visibility
Each authorized adult has a separate operational conversation with Dakota. Confirmed learning facts enter the shared Family record and may appear in the weekly report. Conversations are not broadcast to other caregivers, but a Family Admin can inspect retained Family conversation and audit records. A Family Member can inspect their own retained conversation history.
Texts, media, and requested calls
With express consent, Dakota may send recurring automated SMS and MMS for setup, activity guidance, replies, requested follow-ups, and account notices. Frequency varies; message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to stop or HELP for help. Stopping messages may make the conversation-first service unavailable.
Subscriptions
There is no free trial. The annual plan is CAD $149 charged at purchase and yearly until canceled. The weekly plan is CAD $5 charged at purchase and every seven days until canceled. Both plans include the same features. A Family Admin can cancel future renewals in Settings; ordinary cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid billing period.
30-day money-back guarantee
A Family Admin may request the guarantee in Settings during the first 30 days after payment activates the subscription. An eligible request refunds Dakota subscription charges made during that period and cancels the subscription. Bank processing time may vary.
Your content and responsibilities
You retain your rights in content you submit and authorize Dakota to host, copy, transcribe, interpret, organize, and share it only as needed to operate the Family service, authorized records, and reports. Submit only information and media you have authority to share. Do not impersonate another person, interfere with the service, or use Dakota unlawfully.
Beta availability and accuracy
Dakota uses third-party communications, hosting, AI, email, and payment services. The beta may be delayed, unavailable, or incomplete, and AI interpretations can be wrong. Dakota preserves confirmation and correction paths but does not promise a particular educational or developmental outcome.
Cancellation, export, and deletion
Canceling stops future renewal but does not delete the Family. A Family Admin may separately export or delete Family data in Settings. Deletion does not create a refund unless the guarantee applies. Stripe may retain financial records under its own legal obligations.
Changes and contact
We may update these beta Terms as the service changes and will communicate material changes through an appropriate account channel. Questions can be sent to support@dakota.school.
